Can I Use My iOS Devices as Microphones or Share Their Screen on My Mac Without AirPlay or Sidecar?

I'm struggling with my iMac, which I've been told is too old for Sidecar and not compatible with AirPlay because it's deemed "vintage" by Apple. It's a 2015 model and still works well, but I wish I could just connect my iPhone to it via a lightning to USB cable. I'm getting frustrated with these limitations. Are there any third-party programs or solutions that could help me use my iOS devices as microphones or share their screens on my Mac?

What’s your main goal with the setup? If it's mostly for art, maybe consider using an external display for your canvas, since that might work better than trying to make your iMac act as a third screen.

Exactly! I was hoping to have my canvas on my iMac while I draw on my iPad. Looks like I need to rethink my strategy.

Honestly, it sounds like a USB mic might be your best bet here. If you're trying to use your devices creatively with Procreate, having a second screen can be super useful, but for now, grab a decent mic and it should fulfill your needs pretty well.

Yeah, I'm planning to do the same. I want to maximize my drawing setup too!

I get your frustration! A 2015 iMac is getting up there in age, but it’s not ancient. While it’s a bummer that you can’t use Sidecar or AirPlay, have you thought about just getting a USB mic? They’re pretty affordable and might give you better sound quality than your iPhone's mic anyway.

True, there are some decent options out there that don't break the bank. Plus, they last, which is what you want!
