I'm considering moving our company's file server to SharePoint for better accessibility. We have several QuickBooks company files, and I'm wondering if it's possible to map the SharePoint site to someone's local computer so they can open those files with QuickBooks 2024. Is this a viable option?

Definitely not. Trying to use QuickBooks with SharePoint is a disaster waiting to happen. It might be fine for backups, but working on files live like that is a nightmare. Applications like AutoCAD face similar issues. Save yourself the trouble.
From what I understand, this won't work. SharePoint doesn’t have the necessary file locking mechanisms for QuickBooks. It's basically a file library where you check files in and out, not like a traditional drive you might be thinking of.
TIL! Thanks!
No way, don't do it. The simplest solution is to switch to QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks is essentially a database and needs a dedicated workstation or server to manage the files and database properly. Using a workstation in a pinch isn't recommended.
I've worked with a few small organizations and every time I suggest migrating to QuickBooks Online, the accountants push back. I always tell them to find someone who supports the online version, and it usually resolves itself.
This. It’s a no go. You really need QuickBooks to be installed on a server to host those files. SharePoint just doesn’t cut it.
