Hey everyone! I recently had a tough time with some trojan viruses (like wacatac, wacapew, and sabsik) infecting my Windows laptop. Windows Defender managed to quarantine them, but I didn't notice until a couple of days later. Once I realized what was happening, I disconnected my laptop from the internet right away and shut it down. Now, I have a new computer on the way, but I'm worried about the possibility of the malware spreading through my WiFi. I know malware can be tricky, so I was thinking if resetting my WiFi router and ensuring its firmware is updated would be enough to keep my new computer safe on the home network?

Generally, when a virus gets quarantined and then deleted, it can't stick around on your WiFi router waiting to jump onto another device. If you’ve deleted it from your laptop, it's effectively gone. Just keep cautious habits in mind with your new computer, and you should be good to go!
That makes me feel better! So, I'd be completely safe if I keep everything separate or even reinstall Windows, right?
It sounds like you're pretty cautious, which is good! But to put your mind at ease, malware typically can't jump across devices with different operating systems. If your Windows laptop got infected, that code isn't compatible with the router or your new computer, so you should be safe as long as you don't transfer any files directly. Just resetting the router and updating its firmware is a smart move!
Got it! So, as long as I keep files between the two computers separate, I'm cool? That helps a lot.
Exactly! Just be careful when downloading stuff, and you should be fine!
Yep, reinstalling Windows is another layer of safety. Just make sure to be careful moving any files!
