Can My Old Company Laptop Still Be Tracked After a Fresh Setup?

Hey everyone! I snagged a Lenovo T14 that my employer was selling off pretty cheap, but I'm a bit curious about its security. I know that it doesn't have a GPS, but is there any chance the company could still track it or access it, even after I've set it up with a completely new operating system? I'm not overly concerned about them doing this, but I do want to know how secure this device really is. Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated!

It's unlikely they'll track you with this laptop. As others mentioned, if the company has wiped the disk thoroughly, any tracking software should be gone. Plus, IT departments prefer not to manage devices that aren't officially part of the company anymore.

If they did a thorough wipe and removed all tracking software, then no, they can't track you. Companies usually don't want to pay extra for maintaining licenses on devices they sell off. You're likely in the clear!

You’re probably safe. With a fresh OS installation and a complete drive wipe, most tracking tools would be removed. The risk of being tracked is pretty low.

Generally, there are two main ways your company could monitor a device: through mobile device management (MDM) software or if you log into any company services. If they wiped the laptop properly and removed any MDM software, you should be fine. A factory reset typically clears the software, and unless you use your old employee credentials for anything, they shouldn't have access to your activity.
