Hi everyone! I've spent nearly 30 years in IT, but I'm finding Docker to be quite challenging. I'm looking for some straightforward tutorials or easy-to-follow documentation that can help someone like me, who's a bit of a newbie in this area. I want to start using services like Immich and understand that Docker is essential for that. I've got two machines that I use regularly—one runs Windows 11 Pro, and the other is on Linux Mint. Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Flexibility is key! Avoid Docker Desktop when you can, especially for projects like Immich that work best with a Linux kernel. Installing Docker Engine directly on your Linux machine is the way to go for reliability and performance. The official Docker docs are also a treasure trove of beginner guides!

You should definitely check out the Docker Captains Program! They offer lots of valuable insights for newcomers. Start with some simple projects to really cement your understanding, and once you're comfortable with the basics, try tackling a small project on your own to reinforce what you've learned.

First, make sure to install Docker Engine on your Linux Mint. After that, get familiar with Docker Compose. A great first container to work with is Portainer. Once you’ve got that down, look for good containers to install and use Compose to set them up. It’s a handy way to build your skills!

There's absolutely no shortage of Docker tutorials online! It feels like there are more Docker how-tos than anything else—maybe just shy of dinner recipes. One piece of advice: if you want to get the best learning experience, try using your Linux Mint machine. Docker runs in a VM for anything that's not Linux, which can complicate the learning process.
