I'm looking for some clarity on undervolting my Ryzen 7 5800X. If I undervolt, can the CPU still hit its boosted clock speed of 4800 MHz? I've seen a lot of people assert that undervolting can enhance performance, but how does that work when you're lowering the maximum voltage? I've also noticed a significant drop in temperatures, around 25-30°C, but I'm wondering if it's still possible to maintain the maximum boost clock while reducing the voltage.

Most CPUs come from the factory overvolted, meaning they’re set to run at higher voltages than necessary. This is why undervolting can still allow for efficient performance without hitting those high temperatures.
The core idea behind undervolting is to lower the voltage to decrease heat production and improve performance. For example, on my Ryzen 5 5600 with an aftermarket cooler, I set my undervolt to -17 across all cores and got a clock boost of +200 MHz. During gaming, I hit a max of 5200 MHz and averaged around 4700 MHz while staying under 81°C!
Undervolting enhances performance because it reduces heat output, making it less likely for your CPU to undergo thermal throttling. This means your CPU can maintain high performance levels consistently rather than fluctuating due to heat issues.
The Ryzen 5000 series is often limited more by heat than by power. If your CPU is trying to run at a certain speed and gets too hot, it will throttle down. By undervolting, you reduce the voltage and therefore the heat generated, allowing your CPU to maintain speeds without throttling. So you can achieve those boost speeds without overheating!
