Can’t Access Lacerte Files After Switching to Domain Account

Hey everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble after moving a customer's setup to a Windows Domain. They use Lacerte for their work, but now, when logged in with a domain account, I can't see any of the Lacerte files on the user's computer. They should be located in the default C:Lacerte directory. It seems like everything is fine when I log in as a local user. Anyone have tips on how to fix this? Thanks a lot!

Just to clarify, when you say you can’t access the Lacerte files, do you mean they don’t appear in the program, or can’t you find them when browsing with File Explorer? If it’s the latter, it’s probably due to NTFS permissions. But if the issue is within Lacerte, you might need to adjust user roles or permissions within the app itself, as sometimes programs require their own user setups.

It sounds like you might be dealing with file permission issues. Since the domain account is treated as a different user, they might not have the right access to those files. Why not check the folder permissions when logged in as an admin? You could inherit permissions from the parent directory and adjust them as needed. If that doesn't help, consider that reinstalling Lacerte could also solve the problem.

Have you confirmed whether you’re a local admin on the machine? If so, you could take ownership of the Lacerte folder and set your own file permissions. Also, check if the Lacerte application runs as a specific user account; if that's the case, ensure that account has the necessary access to its database files. Sometimes, bizarre software setups can lead to additional permissions being needed.
