I'm in a bit of a bind here. One of our users can't download any files from Teams or SharePoint, no matter the channel or sender. They get a permission error, but strangely, everything works fine when it comes to downloading from OneDrive or the web. This user is a former employee who came back, but their old account had been deleted a while ago. I've triple-checked their permissions in SharePoint, and they seem to be fine. Before I submit a ticket to Microsoft, I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any insights on what's causing this issue.

It sounds like the root of the issue could be the user's old account reference. When someone returns, SharePoint might still link to the old SID rather than the new account. You’ll need to remove their old account from the SharePoint access list. If you keep an eye on the knowledge base, you should find detailed steps for that.
This can get tricky with seasonal hires; it's frustrating to deal with.
From my experience with hybrid environments, ensure the Immutable ID is correct. A mismatch could potentially cause similar issues. If so, this can usually be resolved by removing the user from permissions and re-adding them after some time.
We do have a hybrid setup, so I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks!
That sounds like the explanation for what’s been happening in my case as well.
Another thing to check is if they're an admin for their OneDrive. Sometimes, returning users lose access due to their permissions being reset. Make sure they have appropriate access set up!
Great point! I’ll definitely verify that.
Having proper permissions is key; sometimes it’s the simple stuff that trips us up.
To fix this, try looking for 'SharePoint's hidden user information list.' That’s where you can delete their original account link. Just search for it and you'll find instructions on how to do this.
Nice tip! I have the same problem; will definitely look it up.
Just solved a similar issue this way - it's very effective!
I feel your pain! Issues like this are the reason I hang around this forum. It can get pretty complicated with these user ID mismatches, especially when someone returns after a long time.
For real, it’s like you need a full manual to untangle all of Microsoft's quirks.
Exactly! Having a team of sysadmins to tackle these problems is essential.
That makes sense! I’ll check that out. If you happen to find that link, please share!
