I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 3600, an RTX 3060, and have 16 GB of RAM. Before heading off to college, I want to upgrade my CPU to one of the AM4 options. I'm torn between the Ryzen 5 5600X priced at $140 and the Ryzen 7 5800XT priced at $200. Many people say the 5600X is the best value for gaming, which matters to me since I'm struggling to hit 60 FPS in Battlefield 6. However, I'm also planning to multitask heavily for college, running various software and multiple documents at once. I'm trying to decide if I should go for the more budget-friendly 5600X focused on gaming, or the 5800XT, which offers more cores for better multitasking. Also, X3D CPUs are out of my budget, so those aren't an option.

Go for the 5800XT. If you’re going to be using AI tools and doing serious work for school, the extra cores will make a significant difference. Your 3600 will feel slow in comparison, and with its higher clock speeds, the 5800XT will keep your FPS steady in demanding games.

Yeah, I'm more leaning towards multitasking for my research tools, so it seems the 5800XT might be the better fit!
