Hey everyone! I know that Linux Mint is based on Debian, but I'm curious about the differences I might experience if I were to install the i3 window manager on each. Would I notice any difference between using i3 on Linux Mint versus just plain Debian? Also, any suggestions on which might be better for a new user? Thanks for all the replies in advance!

Mint is actually based on Ubuntu, which in turn is derived from Debian. So, when you install i3 on Mint, you're working through those extra layers. Generally, you won’t see a huge difference, though Mint is designed to be user-friendly, so it might be less hassle to set up than Debian, which can be a bit more hands-on.

Gotcha! So it sounds like Mint is a smoother ride for new users.
