Hey everyone! I'm feeling a bit anxious about buying the 5070 graphics card because I've heard of some issues with the connector, like melting. I recently reached out to Zotac to see if using the official adapter would keep the warranty intact instead of going with a regular PSU cable for the 12 connector. I'm planning to make the purchase in a few months but want to do my research first. There's been a report of a burnt connector in Japan, and I'm trying to figure out if it's user error or a manufacturing issue. How have your 5070 or 9070 cards been holding up with the 12 connector? Am I overthinking this, or are burnt connectors really that rare? Also, since last year's PSUs have a slightly outdated connector design but are still compatible with the GPU, is it better to just use the official adapter that comes with the GPU? It seems like it might have some updated features.

Using a different adapter shouldn’t affect your warranty since nobody can tell what adapter you used. Just be cautious with cheaper adapters, as they might not be designed for high power and could potentially cause damage. Sticking with the official adapter included with the GPU is definitely a safer choice.
You might want to hold off on worrying until you’re ready to buy. We can’t predict if they’ll all have issues or if they’ll run smoothly. It’s a bit of a gamble, to be honest.
It’s generally recommended to stick with the dedicated 12V cable from your PSU. The 12VHPWR and 12V2x6 connectors are backward compatible. If you connect everything properly and avoid sharp bends in the cable, you should be fine since the 5070 only draws 250 watts. The issues with melting cables are more common with the 5080 and 5090 models, which have higher power demands.
Right! But isn't the official adapter newer and designed in a way that it won't power on unless it's fully inserted? I'm thinking I may as well just get it to be safe when I finally buy it.
Right, I'm talking about the one that comes with the GPU. Guess I’ll just wait and see how it goes when I finally make the purchase.
