I currently have an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 and an A320m-k motherboard, paired with an RTX 2060 Super GPU and 32GB of CORSAIR DDR4 RAM at 3200MHz. The motherboard is failing, as my USB ports keep disconnecting randomly, and I'm also experiencing CPU bottlenecks. I'm planning to upgrade to an MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI motherboard and an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. Additionally, I'm looking to boost my power supply from 450 watts to 650 watts. The total for these components is around $390, but I'm hoping for suggestions that might save me some money. I want to ensure compatibility among these parts and am concerned about overheating since I don't have a dedicated cooling system, just fans. Are there better alternatives to my upgrade plan?

The 5800X isn't known for running hot, so your current cooling setup should be fine. If you're upgrading your GPU, definitely grab that new power supply. For something like an RTX 5070 or RX 9060XT, you'd need more than what you have now, but less power-hungry options could work fine with 450W.
Before swapping out the motherboard, have you checked if a BIOS update is available? It might fix those USB issues without needing a whole new board, which could save you some cash.
I agree! A BIOS update or a fresh Windows install might help. If it works, you could consider getting a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X instead, which would be a great upgrade for gaming without costing as much.
Unfortunately, the BIOS is up-to-date. I found out it’s a common issue with AM4 boards—no solid fixes yet. It seems power saving settings might be at fault, but I don’t have any enabled.
You might want to look into the USB issues more; they could stem from power delivery issues. A PSU upgrade to at least 600W could help.
I just upgraded from a 2600 to a 5600 and had no issues after a BIOS update. Investing in a decent cooler is a smart move, too!
Honestly, I wouldn’t go with AMD this time. I'd suggest grabbing an i5 12600K and pairing it with a Gigabyte B760M motherboard. It’ll be similar in performance to the 5800X and provide a better upgrade path down the line.

Thanks for the info! That's reassuring about the cooling.
