Could My PC Be Compromised After Clicking a Sketchy Link?

I clicked on a dodgy website by mistake, and it quickly downloaded a file that had a .tmp or .tmf extension. I didn't click on or run the file, and it disappeared from my Downloads folder almost instantly. My PC seems fine at the moment, but I'm feeling anxious about any potential security issues. I'm running Windows 11, so I'm wondering if I should be worried or take any specific steps to check for threats.

It happens to the best of us! I recommend scanning your PC with Malwarebytes just to be safe. It's a solid tool that can detect threats that Windows Defender might miss. Even if nothing seems off now, it's better to be cautious and check.

Malwarebytes is a great choice! Just make sure to update it before running the scan to catch the latest threats.

What browser were you using when you clicked the link? Sometimes the download might still show up in the download history rather than the Downloads folder. Just double-check the Downloads tab in your browser to see if it's listed there. If you're using Brave, it could be worth looking in the history too.

I was on Brave, and I checked the Downloads tab, but it wasn't there.
