Dealing with Coil Whine on My RX 9070XT – What Are My Options?

Hey everyone! I just bought a Gigabyte Gaming OC RX 9070XT from Best Buy, but I'm facing a serious issue with coil whine. It's loud enough to drown out all my case fans, and I was surprised since other reviews I saw online didn't mention this problem at all. I contacted Best Buy support, but they don't have any replacements available right now since it's out of stock. If I return it, I could be stuck waiting weeks or even months for another one. Best Buy mentioned they might have stock next week, but I'm not too sure about that. I also thought about going through Gigabyte's warranty, but that seems like it could be a hassle. My return window is open until May 12th. What do you recommend I do?

Mine is similar—it sounds like a dial-up modem every so often. I actually moved my PC under the desk and it’s less distracting. I posted a video of the sound in my history if you want to check it out. It's annoying, but sometimes placement can help a bit!

Yeah, I hear you! Mine doesn't stop even with an undervolt and power cut.

Have you thought about dampening the sound? Coil whine is caused by tiny vibrations, so using something to absorb those, like a card holder, might help. You could test it by putting a finger on the card to see if it changes the sound. If it does, then you'll want to look for some dampening solutions!

I totally understand your frustration! I had a similar experience with my ASRock Steel Legend 9070XT - it sounded like a rattling snake at first! I switched it to a different system with a better PSU and the noise got a lot quieter. Sometimes it’s just luck of the draw with these cards. Maybe try a different setup or PSU if you can!

Honestly, your best bet for a replacement is going through Gigabyte’s warranty. Best Buy can't give you a card if they're out. But there's a good chance Gigabyte will just tell you to return it while you still can. Just be cautious after the return window closes; they might not see coil whine as a defect. It’s a gamble!

It sounds like coil whine really is a lottery with these cards! If you’re worried about warranty, keep in mind that Gigabyte may not cover coil whine unless it's extreme. If you can’t ensure a replacement, you might just have to get used to it, which really isn’t ideal!

Here’s a video showing mine. I'm using an RM1000x PSU and it's pretty noisy. [Check it out here!](https://streamable.com/7qf2an)
