Dealing with Lag Spikes: Ethernet vs. Wi-Fi

Hey everyone! I'm having some serious issues with both my Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection on my PC. Initially, I was using a wireless adapter connected via USB, but my ping was completely unacceptable, so I switched to a TP-Link adapter thinking that would fix it. Unfortunately, I'm still experiencing significant lag spikes and can't get my ping below 50.

It seems like both my wired and wireless connections are giving me trouble, and I'm confused about what to do next. I'm pretty new to tech, so I'd appreciate simpler explanations. Is this likely an issue with my equipment, or could it be related to the router in my house, which I can't change because I live with my girlfriend's family? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot for reading!

Sounds like if both your wired and wireless connections are having the same issues, the next step is definitely to check the router. Have you tried resetting it? A hard reset might help clear any lingering problems.

I haven't reset it yet, but it did go through a power outage recently, so maybe it reset itself then? I'm also thinking about getting my own Wi-Fi setup for my PC.
