Did a power surge fry my TV and PS5 but leave my PC untouched? Should I replace my PSU?

I recently experienced a power surge while moving my TV cabinet and now my TV and PS5 won't turn on, though my PC still boots fine. I suspect something in the setup may have shorted during the move since everything was plugged into a surge protector. I'm concerned the PSU might be compromised despite my PC working well right now. Given my tight budget, I'm wondering if it would be wise to replace the PSU or if it's safe to keep using the PC until I can afford a new one. Is there a way I can ensure it won't cause further damage?

You could always buy a PSU tester from Amazon. If it tests fine, you're good to go! You can return the tester if you want, so you get a little peace of mind without extra costs. Just a thought!

Your PSU is likely fine since it sounds like only the standby rail powers your PC components when everything is off. Just be cautious, as sometimes a surge can damage the PSU, which might affect other parts over time. Keeping an eye on it is smart, and if you notice any weird behavior, you may want to consider a replacement later on.

It's best not to overload a power strip and unplug everything during storms or when moving. You never know if a small movement could cause a short. If it were me, I’d be cautious and might consider a new PSU just to be sure, especially since mine had issues before after a similar situation.

Even if you're on a budget, investing in a UPS could be beneficial! Unlike regular surge protectors that can only handle one surge, a UPS provides ongoing protection and ensures your devices get consistent power without spikes or outages. Plus, they often have indicators to let you know when they’ve taken a hit.

If you're worried about surges, consider getting a high-quality UPS. Mine was reasonably priced and it gives good coverage against spikes so I can run my PC without any concerns. A small investment could save a lot in repairs down the road.
