Hey everyone! I'm starting a Cyber Security program this fall and was given a list of minimum hardware requirements for my laptop. I had an old one, so I just bought a new ThinkPad T14. The requirement said I need at least 4 CPU cores with hyper-threading. The T14 has 12 total cores, but only 2 of them are performance cores. My guess is we'll mostly be doing programming, and honestly, I managed to code on my old laptop, even with its hiccups. So, do you think the performance difference will matter much? I can still return it if needed, but time is running out. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You really don't need a super high-performance laptop for programming, especially if you're mostly doing Python. Your ThinkPad should handle the basics just fine, but if you get into more demanding tasks like running multiple VMs, you may wish for more power. Just keep in mind that many schools now use cloud VMs rather than having everything run locally! Good luck!
Thanks! I remember running a VM on my old laptop—it just meant closing every tab first to avoid freezing, haha.
