I recently upgraded to an AM5 from my previous AM4 setup, and I think I might have messed up with my RAM selection. I heard that 6000 MT/s is the ideal speed for the 9800x3d processor, but I wasn't sure about the timing when I made my choice. With RAM prices rising every day, I'm worried if my current RAM will work well with this build. Would better timings make a noticeable performance difference? Here's my setup:
- CPU: 9800x3d
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 CL36
- GPU: PNY 5070Ti OC
- Motherboard: ROG STRIX B850-A
- Monitor: Odyssey G6 OLED 1440P 360Hz

You'll be fine with what you have. For X3D chips, CL timings are less of a concern. Given the current RAM prices, upgrading isn’t worth it; you might see only a 5 FPS difference on average.
For X3D chips, you need less stringent RAM. CL36 is totally fine! It’s about the same as a non-X3D chip with CL30 RAM. Don’t stress over it, especially with prices being high.
Phew, that's a relief! Now I'm just looking to upgrade my M.2 drive from a 970 Pro Evo to a Samsung 9100.
Sounds like you have Samsung-chipped RAM, which isn’t a big deal. Secondary timings are more critical than primary ones. Check out Buildzoidz's videos for tips on optimizing your RAM.
You're all good! The difference in performance is super subtle—like only 1-3 FPS. With the X3D CPUs, RAM timings don't really matter that much.
Great to hear! I was really worried about missing out on potential performance.

That’s good to know! I saw some threads saying it was a mistake to go with CL36 on the 9800x3d.
