I'm in the process of upgrading my rig, which I built back in 2011 with an i5-4690k, a GTX 660 ti, and 16GB of DDR3 RAM. I've since upgraded to a GTX 980 and although it still handles games like Elden Ring decently at 1080p, I'm facing an issue because this setup can't upgrade to Windows 11. Recently, I invested in an i7-12700kf processor for $170, but the major dilemma has been which graphics card to buy. After scouring for a used GTX 3090 without mining history and finding that too challenging, I was reluctant to pay the inflated prices on the 40 series, especially with the 4070 ti reaching about $1000. I finally settled on a new RTX 5070 for $650, which feels like a fair deal considering tax and shipping. Was this a wise investment, or should I have gone another route?

You did okay! If you're in the U.S., GPU prices might skyrocket soon due to the trade issues, so grabbing a 12GB 5070 at near MSRP is solid. Plus, with its specs, it should serve you well for a while, especially if you use DLSS. Forget about those 8GB cards; they're going to be outdated soon!
Yeah, it's maddening! I'm just glad I found something usable in this market.
Did you consider AMD? They have solid options and are typically better value for money. Nvidia has its issues right now with prices and drivers, but the 5070 isn’t a bad pick, just keep your options open next time!
I think the 5070 would serve you better in the long run, but the i7-12700kf is a bit dated now. Eventually, you might need to switch the entire platform including the motherboard. AMD has good value options lately if that’s something to consider next time. The GPU market is crazy, though; I get it if you went with Nvidia for the performance!
That card’s just trash; you could have done better with an AMD option!
That’s a bold take; it may not be the best, but it's not the worst choice either!
Honestly, you're looking pretty good with that RTX 5070. It's definitely a notable upgrade from the 980, and in the current market, it's not a bad price. Hopefully, you'll get great performance without breaking the bank!
I hear you on that! I’ve been following GamersNexus too but can’t believe what they reported on those prices. Everything seems inflated right now.
