I'm in the process of upgrading my desktop and recently picked up a 5070 GPU to replace my 1660 Super. Right now, I've got 32GB of DDR4-4000 RAM and an AMD Ryzen 5 3600. I need to upgrade my CPU, but I've noticed that the prices for strong AM4 CPUs, like the 5700X3D, have skyrocketed. Do you think they'll come back in stock, or have I completely missed my shot at getting one?

The 5800XT was going for around $150-160 for a while, but I've seen them in the $200 range lately. Since the 5700X3D is currently the only X3D CPU in production, maybe try to find a 5800X3D instead; they tend to perform better than the older chips!
Keep an eye on marketplaces like Facebook. I saw a 5700X3D sold for $175 nearby recently, and Newegg has the 5800XT for around $140.
That Newegg deal is solid, and the 5800XT is a great upgrade. If you don’t need the keyboard that comes with it, you could sell it.
Once prices rise, they typically don't come back down, especially with older platforms like AM4. Plus, with the AM5 launch, stock for these chips has been dwindling.
That’s a bummer, oh well.
Prices have been hovering around $300 for these chips for a while now. With AM5 becoming more affordable, I find it hard to recommend sticking with the AM4 3D CPUs at this point.
I think you meant AM4, not ARM. Just a heads up, ARM is a different CPU architecture entirely. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that AM4 chips like the X3D are still being produced in significant amounts anymore.
Looks like I’ll need to bite the bullet and eventually upgrade my motherboard too.
Consider checking the used market or just jump to AM5. The X3D CPUs were discontinued last fall, so they might come down eventually. If you live near a Micro Center, they have some bundles with decent pricing right now.
Honestly, unless you're hitting 100% CPU usage frequently, your Ryzen 3600 should hold you over for the next few years. Test it out with the 5070 first, and if you really need an upgrade, consider going for AM6 later.
You might see those CPUs flood the market as people continue to upgrade their rigs. Keep an eye out for used options; you could snag a good deal down the line.
People usually hold onto the top-performing CPUs longer, so the prices on used ones might stay high for a bit.
Thanks for the positive vibes! But yeah, the prices on eBay are really steep right now.
I’m actually considering the AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT!
