I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my computer and have learned that replacing the existing RAM is generally safer than just adding more. I've checked my motherboard's support page, which has a list of compatible RAM sticks. My question is, do I really need to stick to the RAM on that list? I'm seeing other RAM sticks with the same voltage and speed, which I believe are the critical aspects to match. Any advice?

It’s actually best if you use RAM that’s on your motherboard's compatibility list, but it’s not a strict rule. To be safe, just ensure that the RAM you choose has the same voltage and speed as your current stick. If you're adding, your computer will usually revert to the slowest stick's speed. Just make sure to check the timings listed in your motherboard specs too!
Could you share the model number of your motherboard and current RAM? That might help us give better advice.
