Do I Need a 7600X for a 9060XT If I’m Only Playing Single Player Games?

I'm trying to decide if the AMD 7600X is too powerful for pairing with a 9060XT since I only plan to play single-player games. I've noticed in benchmarks that the 9060XT seems to hit its limits long before the 7600X does. I'm gaming at 1440p and just want a stable 60fps (even on lower settings with some upscaling). Is the 7600X overkill? Should I consider something like the Intel i5 14400F, which is much cheaper? I've heard mixed opinions—some say to go for AMD, while others mention that Intel is not a good choice. The AMD 7500F isn't available where I live, so I'm a bit stuck on what to choose.

If you pair the 14400F with some fast DDR5 RAM, it can compete with the 7600X in most cases. The key thing to consider is future upgrades. The LGA1700 socket is reaching its end, with no more upgrades in sight, while AM5 offers more room for improvement down the line.

The 7600X can handle almost any GPU without issue, apart from the highest-end ones. I paired mine with a 4080 Super and got close to the limit with solid performance. Yes, it might be overkill for the 9060XT, but it’ll last longer than that GPU. Investing in the 7600X makes sense if you might want to upgrade to something like an X3D chip later. Meanwhile, the Intel 14400F lacks upgrade potential and would need a whole new motherboard for later improvements.

Going with AMD is a solid choice, even if the 7600X seems a bit much right now. An important factor is that the AM5 platform allows for future upgrades in a few years. With Intel, you’d face a dead-end since you'd need to replace both the CPU and motherboard when you want to upgrade later.

Either option will work just fine. If you're worried about costs, the 14400F might be the better bet for you. It performs well and will save you some cash.
