Do I Need Ethernet to Set Up Windows with WiFi?

I'm building a new PC with the MSI B550M PRO VDH Wifi motherboard and I'm trying to figure out how to set up Windows. When I start the installation, will my WiFi network show up automatically? Or do I have to connect via Ethernet first? I know you can skip the WiFi and account setup during installation and do it later, but I'm not sure how that affects the WiFi setup process.

You can either connect your PC to the internet with an Ethernet cable right away, or you can just install the drivers for the WiFi after installing Windows. If you want, you can save those drivers on a USB stick ahead of time. Just keep in mind that there have been some changes with WiFi chipsets on these boards depending on the manufacturing date, so check if yours is using Intel, Realtek, or MediaTek WiFi.

So if I install the right drivers, I'll have WiFi, correct?

Yeah, but the drivers have to be compatible with what WiFi card your motherboard has.

As for the setup, if you skip the WiFi connection, you can come back to it later. WiFi should show up once you have drivers installed, but it might be smoother to connect via Ethernet if you can. It seems like most tutorials recommend that as a safer option, just to avoid issues during installation.

Thanks! I was worried my WiFi wouldn’t pop up at all.

Yeah, using Ethernet is the easiest way to go, especially for first-time setups.
