I'm planning to upgrade my CPU from an i7 14700k to an i9 14900k, and I'm not sure about the necessary steps. I've always done full motherboard swaps before, so I've never replaced a CPU in the same socket. Since there aren't drivers needed for CPUs like there are for GPUs, is it just a matter of plugging it in and it'll work?

It's just plug and play! After you swap the CPU, you might see the American Megatrends screen before it kicks you into BIOS. But you can just exit that, and it should take you right back to Windows.
No need for a fresh install! Just make sure you check your BIOS version. If it's not the most up-to-date, resetting to factory settings and flashing it might be a good idea once you swap the CPU.
By the way, why are you jumping from a 14700 to a 14900? I'm currently on a 13700 and curious about the upgrade benefits.
Exactly, just install the new CPU and see how it goes. It should fire up just fine! It’s usually pretty straightforward.
