I've been setting up my new PC and was thinking about getting a power strip when I stumbled across UPS devices. I've never used one before and I'm curious if it's necessary for my setup or just a waste of money. I've been gaming for years using just a power strip without any issues. Though we do experience occasional power outages due to bad weather, they're quite rare and our generator kicks in quickly when they happen.

I've used PCs for decades without a UPS. Unless you have frequent power issues or are running sensitive projects, a solid surge protector should be more than enough.
If power outages are rare for you, stick to a good surge protector. But if you do sensitive tasks on your PC, a UPS is a solid choice for that peace of mind. It gives you time to shut down properly in case of an outage, which has helped me out more than once!
You've been fine with just a power strip, so you might not need to change anything. A UPS is more of an insurance policy against unexpected outages—good for saving your work, but if you game only occasionally and your power is usually reliable, it's not a must-have.
True, but consider if you have sensitive workloads—then a UPS might be more worthwhile.
If you have pricey components or can't risk losing your progress, a UPS can be a nice addition. It's not strictly necessary, though; most people get by just fine without one. A power strip usually suffices for light users.
Totally agree! It's kind of like insurance for your gear. It’s not essential unless you’re in a spot with frequent outages.
Exactly! I just bought a surge protector for my setup and it's doing the job perfectly.
Simply put, if your PC is valuable to you, protecting it is wise. Sure, a UPS isn’t strictly necessary for everyone, but it's a good cushion against unexpected power issues.

I never bothered until I started working from home; now it's a no-brainer.
