I'm concerned about the safety of my devices with Respondus Lockdown Browser. My mom needs it for her classes, and she installed it on a Chromebook and a Windows PC. I've heard horror stories online about how it can't be uninstalled and supposedly ruins personal computers. Since I'll be away at university and my mom will need to use my Windows PC, I want to know if these claims are true. Is it really that bad, or are people just exaggerating?

Honestly, if there's no absolute need to test it out, I'd advise against it. Better safe than sorry, especially on a personal computer.
There is definitely a mix of opinions out there. Some say it’s no big deal, while others are really concerned. Just take it easy and maybe look for alternatives if you're worried.
I would still proceed with caution. Just because some people haven’t had issues doesn’t mean it’s completely safe. I'd personally think twice about using it on my own machine.
As someone who works in IT at a school using Respondus, I can say I've never seen it cause any problems. I install and uninstall it regularly for students and it usually goes smoothly. The warnings about it are mostly exaggerated in my opinion.
