I used to have BitLocker enabled on my Windows Home but recently disabled it before cloning my system, and the decryption took quite some time. Now that I want to enable BitLocker again, I can't find the option. The settings show a Windows Encryption section that states I need a Microsoft account to use encryption, not a local account. However, I've come across several posts suggesting that Windows Home doesn't support BitLocker at all and that it's only available with the Pro version. How could I have had it before?

Have you checked if your version has "Device Encryption"? It might be a similar feature. You can find more info in the Microsoft support documentation about device encryption.
Unfortunately, BitLocker isn’t available on Windows Home. Sometimes manufacturers pre-activate it by using the Pro version's config files, which might explain why you saw it before. If you’re seeing prompts for a Microsoft account now, it’s likely because they want to ensure you're using it correctly with their supported accounts.
