Hey everyone! I recently relocated my PC to a different room, and now I'm dealing with some serious frame drops while gaming, and even on the desktop. I noticed this issue especially after long gaming sessions. I've tried lowering my graphics settings, but that only made things worse, dropping my frames by about 30. I did my homework online and ended up trying a bunch of things: lowering settings, restarting, reinstalling drivers, and using HWMonitor to check my setup. When I opened my PC, I discovered that my CPU temperature was alarmingly high, hitting around 98-100 degrees Celsius. That seemed way off, so I made sure the cooler was properly seated and cleaned out any dust. Even after all that, my framerate improved a bit, but the temperature was still high, plus one of the fans started squeaking.
In HWMonitor, the CPU was the only thing out of whack. I decided to turn off one GPU setting (DSR factors), and the temp dropped a bit to 89-91 degrees. Lowering my resolution to 1440p helped more, bringing it down to 67-79 degrees, which is better, but still not ideal. I'm considering replacing the CPU cooler, but I'm confused about how to test or swap it. I followed some instructions that suggested stopping the fan to check for noise, but I don't see an obvious fan on the CPU cooler.
Now that I've removed the CPU cooler, my PC is silent, but the CPU temperature hasn't changed much—still sitting around 69-79 degrees at idle. This is puzzling because I expected the temperature to spike without the cooler. I truly believe the CPU cooler is the problem, but I'd love to hear if anyone has any other insights or thinks I might have misdiagnosed the issue! Here's my setup: Intel Core i7 10700F 2.90 GHz, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, and 24GB RAM.

It sounds like you’re on the right track with your troubleshooting! First off, check what cooler you’re actually using. If it’s the stock cooler for that CPU, it looks like this [stock cooler image](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61RzGQM-ykL.jpg). If that’s not what you've got, it could explain your temperature issues. If the fan isn’t working, overheating can definitely happen. Can you post pictures of your setup? You can use Imgur for that!

Thanks! I just figured out how to upload images to Imgur. Here's the link: https://imgur.com/a/69SE9jB. Let me know what you think!
