Experiencing Strange Symptoms After the Flu: Seeking Insights

I've been dealing with some pretty odd sensations ever since I had a really bad case of the flu back in February. I noticed that I kept waking up with numbness—like from a dentist's injection—on the left side of my body. This numbness gradually spread to my mouth, face, and even parts of my back. I also had a three-week-long headache and some tinnitus during that time. Although I consulted with multiple neurologists and had MRIs done, the findings were inconclusive. One neurologist mentioned mild neuropathy and other conditions, but they didn't really address my ongoing symptoms. Now, I'm still feeling the same odd numbness and heaviness on the left side, and recently, I've started experiencing congestion in my nasal area that seems to match the numbness I felt earlier. My doctor seems dismissive, and I'm at a loss about what to do next. I'm starting to think there might be a connection between my flu episode and these ongoing nerve issues. Has anyone else experienced something like this or have any thoughts on what I should do next?

I totally get where you're coming from! It sounds like your flu may have triggered some nerve issues. Some viruses can indeed cause or exacerbate neuropathies. Have you considered talking to a different neurologist who specializes in post-viral symptoms? They might have more insight into what you're experiencing. You aren't mad—your symptoms are real, and you're right to seek help.

It sounds really frustrating to deal with these ongoing symptoms. Some people have reported similar issues after viral infections, including the flu. It might be worth exploring conditions like Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome or even discussing the possibility of small fiber neuropathy with a specialist who focuses on nerve conditions. If your current neurologist isn't helpful, maybe seeking a second opinion could be beneficial. Stay strong; you deserve answers!
