Hey everyone! I'm in the process of putting together a new gaming rig and I'd love your feedback before I hit the purchase button. My main goals are to achieve max settings with high FPS at 1440p, maintain a clean black aesthetic without RGB, ensure good thermals and reliability, and keep an eye on costs so I'm not overspending unnecessarily. I definitely want to avoid any CPU or GPU bottlenecks.
I've managed to find all the parts at MSRP in my area, and here's what I'm planning to get:
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core
- **Cooler:** ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360
- **Motherboard:** Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ATX AM5
- **Memory:** G.Skill Ripjaws S5 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
- **Storage:** WD Black SN850X 4 TB NVMe PCIe 4.0
- **GPU:** PNY OC GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB
- **Case:** Lian Li LANCOOL 217 ATX Mid Tower
- **PSU:** Corsair RM1000x 1000 W 80+ Gold Fully Modular
I'd really appreciate any input on whether this is a balanced setup, if I'm overspending in some areas, any tips to cut costs without affecting performance, or if there are any components where I should increase my budget to prevent bottlenecks. Thanks in advance!

Have you thought about switching to an air cooler instead of using an AIO? I have a 9800X3D, and I’ve been using an air cooler with no issues at all. It might save you some money and still keep everything cool!
I think you might want to consider the RTX 5070 Ti instead of the 5080. It's a better value and should still get you great performance at 1440p. Plus, you could save some cash for other components!
I totally get that! But I prefer to future-proof my setup. I'm aiming for 1440p with max settings, ideally over 165 FPS, so I'm worried the 5070 Ti might not last as long before it needs an upgrade.
Your build looks solid! Just a couple of thoughts: 64 GB of RAM is overkill for gaming right now; you could probably get by with 32 GB. Also, it seems like your PSU is a bit older. Consider looking for a newer ATX 3.1 unit for better compatibility. And about the 5080 card, it might not be the best value out there. It's really up to you if that extra performance is worth the price.
Thanks for the tips! I'll go with 32 GB for sure since it sounds like that's more than enough for gaming. I checked, and my PSU is ATX 3.1 compliant, so it should be good. And yeah, I understand the value concerns around the 5080—but I’m okay with spending more now if it means I won’t have to upgrade for a while. For storage, I thought the WD SN850X 4 TB was a good mix of reliability and pricing, but I'm open to suggestions!
I'm open to that! What air cooler are you using? I've had trouble with the Noctua NH-D15 not fitting right due to RAM clearance, but if there's a good air option that works well, I might switch.
