First Time PC Build for Competitive Gaming on a $2000 Budget

I'm putting together my first ever gaming PC build and would appreciate some feedback! Here's my current part list: I've got an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, a Thermalright Phantom Spirit cooler, a Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI motherboard, Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM, a Samsung 990 EVO Plus storage drive, and a Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU. I'm aiming for competitive FPS games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Tarkov. I want to make sure compatibility is good and that I'm not overspending on any components. Any suggestions or improvements? Also, is my choice of extra case fans a good idea or should I ditch them? Thanks!

If you want better performance and save some money, consider swapping the motherboard and PSU for less expensive models. The features on your current choices might not be worth the extra cash if they’re not things you’ll actually use. Plus, the 5070 Ti is slightly better for gaming at 1440p, based on some benchmarks I've seen, and it’s just a bit pricier than the 9070 XT. Here’s a more budget-friendly build list I recommend!

I like the ideas! Is that compatibility warning on the new motherboard an issue? I want to make sure everything works together.

Your build looks solid for your first one! The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a great choice, and the motherboard and cooler are well-matched too. Just a thought: have you considered the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti? It's only about $30 more and outperforms the 9070 XT in many cases, plus it might save you some cash in other areas. And it seems like your case already includes a bunch of fans, so I'd suggest sticking with those instead of adding more. If you want RGB, maybe look for a case that has them built-in. Happy building!

Thanks for the feedback! I did look at the 5070 Ti, but couldn't find it within my budget. Are they constantly restocking, or should I just go for the 9070 XT? I really want to get it right this time.

Overall, great job! The CPU and RAM are good picks. For the RAM, maybe try to find a CL30 version instead of CL36 if you're looking for slight performance boosts, but honestly it’s not a game-changer. Just wondering about the extra RGB fans—are you going for aesthetics or do you actually need them? If your case comes with effective cooling, you might want to skip them. Also, there are better SSD options out there that can save you a few bucks. Check out this link I made with some solid alternatives!

I appreciate the tips! The extra fans were really just for lighting, but I see your point. I want a clean build with minimal RGB, so I’ll focus on performance instead. Thanks for the SSD suggestion!
