Forgot My Apple ID Password After 10 Years โ€“ Am I Stuck?

It's been over a decade since I used any Apple products, but I just received an email saying my Apple ID was used to log into iMessage on a phone that I don't own. The email advised me to change my password. The issue is, I can't remember my password from so long ago! I've tried the 'forgot password' option, but I've heard it could take a long time for them to authenticate me. What should I do? Is my Apple ID compromised, and will I be able to regain control of it?

That email might be a scam. It's best to delete it without clicking any links. If you've entered any passwords on a site after clicking a link from that email, assume it's compromised and change your passwords across all your accounts. Don't reuse any old passwords either!

CuriousCarla: But the email seems real since it had my name and email. I didn't click any links and just went directly to the Apple ID site to reset my password.
