I recently switched to Linux and, in my haste, I completely forgot to back up about 100GB of personal data, including photos, videos, and some game recordings. I've tried using TestDisk for recovery but I'm not sure I'm doing it right, and I think I wiped any Windows partitions completely. If there's a chance to recover my stuff, I'd love to hear it, but if not, I'll move on since most of it isn't particularly valuable. Any advice?

You might want to check out forums like r/datarecovery for some specific tips tailored to your situation. People there can offer more targeted advice on tools and methods you can use to try and retrieve your lost files. Every bit of feedback could help you salvage something!
First off, are we talking about a hard drive or an SSD? If it’s an SSD, be cautious because once you delete files, the drive can start erasing old data during the garbage collection process. This usually makes recovery more difficult. For an HDD, though, it’s often possible to recover more data unless you've overwritten it a lot. Just keep that in mind as you explore recovery options!
