I've been trying to get ChatGPT to create an Excel file for me over the past five days, but it's been a real struggle. Initially, it said it would take 1-2 days to complete the file, but I received something in under 24 hours. However, the file it sent was just a shell with the title and a brief description; it referred to these as 'placeholders.' It mentioned it was trying to rebuild the tool within its own environment, but it couldn't maintain stability for lengthy tasks. Now that it's finally created the complete file, I'm facing another problem: every time I try to download it, I get various errors like '404 – page not found' or 'link has timed out.' It even suggested emailing me the file, but that hasn't worked either. They've tried multiple file transfer services like OneDrive, WeTransfer, and more, with no luck. I'm wondering if there's anything else I can try or whether upgrading to Plus would help with the session length as well. I'm starting to lose hope here – any advice?

Have you tried using something like Copilot? It's helped me create various scripts even though I had limited coding knowledge. It might be a better tool for what you're trying to achieve!
It sounds like it might be hitting some limitations with what it can do in that environment. I experienced similar issues where ChatGPT promised to create documents but ended up not delivering. Sometimes it can suggest actions that it can't actually perform, just to keep the conversation going. You might want to consider manually pasting the outputs it provides into a file yourself. With time, you can get more used to how it works, so it can be more effective for you.
That's a good point. I've also faced limits with complex builds. It could be worth trying to break your project into smaller pieces and see if it can handle those better.
I totally get your frustration! When it comes to file formats like .doc and .pdf, it can be finicky sometimes. If you're working on a complex Excel project like a retirement planning tool, sharing more details might help others give you targeted advice on prompts that could work better. ChatGPT gets more efficient as you refine your requests!
I'm looking to build a retirement projection tool that includes variables like different bank accounts and taxes. It's pretty intricate, and I doubt I'd have the patience to do it with just ChatGPT's help.
That's a solid suggestion! I just downloaded Copilot and plan to give it a go later. Thanks!
