Hey everyone! I'm facing a bit of a frustrating situation with my internet setup. I pay for a 1gbps internet speed, but my gaming PC is only getting about 10-20 Mbps on WiFi. Normally, I'd just connect it via Ethernet, but my modem is stuck about 75 feet away in my living room because of a service box, and I didn't want to run a long cable across the house. I tried using power over Ethernet, but that only boosted my speed by 10-25 Mbps. I'm wondering what I should do next. Should I just run a 100ft Ethernet cable to my bedroom? Or would it be better to set up another router in my room and connect my PC to that? I really want to hit at least 100 Mbps to avoid lag in my games. Any advice would be awesome! Thanks!

I'm surprised your speeds barely improved with power over Ethernet. The interference and distance might be causing issues. To answer your question, if running a cable isn't feasible, setting up a secondary router in your room could definitely help bridge that gap. Just make sure it has good capabilities to handle the traffic.
Honestly, if you want to maximize your speeds, nothing beats a good old Ethernet connection. You might want to think about running that cable, maybe even hiding it along the edges of the wall to make it less noticeable. Alternatively, you could contact your ISP to see if they can move the modem closer to your PC, which could save you the hassle of running a long cable.
Just a heads up, Ethernet cables are most effective up to 100 meters, so you shouldn’t have any issues running a 100ft cable. It can really transform your connection, especially for gaming! If you decide to go that route, consider also checking out wall clips to keep it tidy.
