Hey everyone! I recently found my old laptop from 2012 after thinking it was dead for years. I managed to get into the BIOS, so there's hope! It has 2GB of DDR3 RAM, a 120GB hard drive, and an Intel Atom processor. I'm looking for suggestions on how I might be able to use it, especially for my digital electronics classes, even though I'm aware it might not support the main IDE we use, MCUxpresso. I'm also considering trying out Linux for the first time, so any lightweight OS recommendations would be great. Thanks!

2GB is a tough spot, I get that. My old laptop has 4GB and runs Debian without issues for light tasks, even using VS Code, but I keep it simple. You might want to look into a minimal version of Linux that doesn't bog down your system.
That Atom processor isn't going to handle anything heavy, definitely don't expect to run big programming tasks on it. Just taking notes could be a struggle, honestly. But maybe you can find some lighter tools if you're just doing simple stuff.
