We’re looking at replacing our help desk and ITSM tool, and Halo ITSM and Freshservice are both on the list. I’m seeing different takes on customization, usability, and cost. What would you compare before choosing?

I’d run the same small set of real tasks through both trials: submit and update a ticket, make a change, find an asset, and adjust a workflow. The day-to-day friction matters more than how impressive the feature list looks. Ask the people who will actually use it to try those tasks, then compare setup effort as well as the finished result.

Halo sounds like the better fit if your processes need a lot of tailoring and you have time to build things out. The tradeoff people flag is that there are lots of settings and fields to deal with, and the interface can feel cluttered or slow. I’d test the exact workflows you care about before assuming all that flexibility will pay off.

Freshservice seems worth a close look if you want something that feels cleaner with less setup. The caution is that some teams find its customization limiting, and asset tracking costs may depend on the number of devices. Check whether the specific changes and asset features you need fit the plan you’re pricing, not just the trial experience.

Don’t treat either reputation as universal. Feedback on Halo ranges from appreciating its flexibility and lower cost to finding the interface awkward, while Freshservice gets praise for being easier to pick up and criticism for customization limits. Get a clear quote for your expected use, and include the time needed to configure and maintain the system in the comparison.
