Has Amazon Web Services ever taken a customer to court over an unpaid bill, particularly in the United States? I'm looking for an actual publicly documented court case, not a collections notice or general speculation.
My account is set to pay automatically each month, but a very large charge could be rejected by my credit card due to spending limits. If the bill were both extremely large and clearly incorrect, I would dispute it rather than pay it immediately. What would realistically happen after that—account suspension, collections, arbitration, or a lawsuit?

For a small personal account, a lawsuit seems unlikely because the cost of pursuing the debt may not be worthwhile. A large business balance would be a different matter, especially if the customer had substantial unpaid usage. The company might negotiate a repayment plan, use a collection agency, or pursue the matter through the contract’s dispute-resolution process.
AWS has usage controls and account limits partly to reduce the risk of enormous unpaid balances, particularly for newer or smaller customers. If a customer became seriously overdue, services would likely be shut down long before the balance reached an unmanageable amount. In bankruptcy, AWS would generally be one creditor among many, while a collection agency could potentially bring its own legal action after acquiring or being assigned the debt.
A settlement could also explain why public examples are hard to find. If a dispute ended confidentially, there might be no published judgment to search for even if legal action was threatened.
The usual progression would probably be failed payment notices, account suspension, and then referral or sale of the debt to a collections company. What happens after that depends on the customer’s country and the size of the balance. AWS would likely try to resolve a genuine billing dispute before pursuing litigation.
That makes sense, but I’m specifically interested in a documented U.S. case rather than what companies might theoretically do.
