Has my laptop been remotely accessed?

Today at work, I noticed some odd behavior on my laptop. I wasn't using it—instead, I was on my phone—and then suddenly, my email opened by itself! After that, Chrome opened a search for "Trust Wallet" and started clicking links. I quickly grabbed the mouse and shut everything down. I do have TeamViewer installed, but it wasn't running at the time. It felt very much like someone else was controlling my laptop. I'm worried that this might be a virus or possible remote access. Has anyone faced something similar? What steps can I take to check my laptop for security issues and protect it?

It really sounds like there could be remote access at play, especially if TeamViewer was enabled in the background. I recommend doing a thorough antivirus scan—tools like Malwarebytes or Bitdefender work well. If you're really concerned about security, you might consider a factory reset or clean install of Windows to be on the safe side.

Yeah, and don’t forget to disconnect from the internet before scanning! It's a good move to avoid any further compromise.

First off, since this is a work laptop, definitely report this to your IT team right away. They should be able to help you investigate further and secure your device.

If your email and Chrome opened on their own, that’s definitely not normal behavior. My advice: disconnect your laptop, do a full scan immediately, check for suspicious applications, and double-check your firewall settings. And always change your passwords from another device just in case!

Sounds like a classic case of potential malware or unauthorized access. Disconnect your laptop from the internet immediately. Then, run a full antivirus scan and check your Task Manager for any unfamiliar programs that are set to start up with your system. It might also be good to uninstall remote access tools if you aren't actively using them. Make sure to change your passwords from a different device afterward!
