I recently received an old MacBook but I'm not very familiar with Apple products. I'm trying to create an Apple account, but I keep getting an error message saying it can't make an account—without any explanation. I've tested multiple phone numbers, and they all seem valid since I can use them for account recovery and get a 'none exist' response. I believe the username and email I chose are fine as well, since I checked their availability. The MacBook was wiped before I got it, so I'm not sure why I'm encountering this issue. I'm really stuck here!

There can be a limit on how many new Apple accounts you can create from a specific device. It might be that the previous owners made too many accounts, leading to your issue. You might need to contact Apple support if that’s the case.
How old is your MacBook? If it's running a version older than macOS 10.12, it might not connect properly to Apple's servers due to expired certificates. Just something to check!
It was on Catalina, but I managed to update it to Sequoia. I created one account, but now I'm trying to set up another for my kid and I'm still having trouble.
It would be super helpful if it just told you that instead of giving a vague "no" message!
