Heavy Lag After Installing New GPU – Need Troubleshooting Help

I recently upgraded my system with a new CPU (AMD Ryzen 7) and a GPU (GeForce 4060). The CPU upgrade was seamless and everything was running smoothly. However, after installing the 4060 a couple of weeks ago, I've been facing significant performance issues. Every time my computer wakes up from sleep, it lags heavily, making it almost unusable. When only the display is turned off, the lag is less severe but still noticeable. I have to restart my computer for it to function normally again, which is frustrating since I work from home and rely on applications like Photoshop and After Effects. I've tried reinstalling drivers multiple times, including doing a clean install and using DDU, and I also turned off fast boot. I'm open to any troubleshooting steps that could solve this annoying issue.

Given the strange behavior you're experiencing, a full fresh reinstall of Windows might be your best bet. Sometimes that really clears up weird issues like these!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’m going to give that a try.

What power supply are you using? I faced similar lag after I upgraded from an i5 to an i7 because my PSU wasn't powerful enough. Make sure yours is up to the task!

I'm using a 620W SeaSonic M12II, but it's from 2015. Do these power supplies go bad over time? How can I check if I'm drawing too much power?

I've had a similar problem after waking up my PC, and I found it easier to just disable sleep altogether and use a screensaver instead. It saves a lot of headache in the long run!

I might consider that! I'll try some other tips first, but it's good to have a backup plan!

You might want to remove your GPU, completely uninstall all Nvidia drivers, then reinstall the GPU and its software. If that doesn't work, a Windows reinstall might be worth it as well.

I appreciate the advice! I'll start with Windows reinstallation first to clean out some unused programs.
