Hey everyone! I just had my old phone die on me, and now I can't log into my Apple ID on my new iPhone. They keep trying to send an authentication code to my old number, which I haven't used in years. My current SIM card has the same phone number, but I've been told I won't receive the code on my new number for about 24 hours. I just got an email saying that account recovery won't be finished until the 12th!
So now, I've got this expensive new iPhone that I can't use for anything besides calls, and a broken phone that cost me $600. I really need my Apple ID to access my daily apps and services, but I'm worried that if I create a new Apple ID, it might mess up my recovery process. Anyone else experienced this? What can I do in the meantime?

It sounds like you're stuck in a frustrating situation with Apple's two-factor authentication (2FA). Since you didn’t update your trusted phone number to something accessible, you have to go through the account recovery process. I'd recommend looking into adding recovery contacts or trusted phone numbers once you get back in. Here's some info from Apple that might help:
- Apple's 2FA info: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102660
- Recovery Contacts: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102641
- Trusted Phone Numbers: https://support.apple.com/en-us/122621
I feel you on the frustration! But I don’t think it’s totally Apple’s fault that you didn’t update your trusted number. It’s a good idea to add more trusted contacts – you never know when you’ll need them! Just keep that in mind for future setups.
You're right; I definitely need to look into adding more options next time. It's just annoying that I'd have to tackle this mess because of some missed updates.
Have you thought about getting your old phone fixed? I know it might sound silly, but it could let you log in and sort your Apple ID out. A repair shop might help you with that screen issue without costing an arm and a leg, especially if it's for a quick fix like logging in. Just a thought!
Honestly, I’d rather just buy a new phone than spend money on fixing my old one, especially since I’ve got a newer model now.
I get that! It’s super confusing. I can’t believe it didn’t update automatically when you changed numbers. You’d think there’d be a better way to manage that.
