I'm struggling to get my old Toshiba Satellite P500, which runs Windows 7, to boot from a USB drive with Zorin Linux on it. I've already tried accessing the boot menu and setting it to boot from USB, but it keeps loading Windows instead. Any tips or suggestions would be really appreciated!

First, check if the USB works on another computer. If it does, you're on the right track! You might also want to look into the tool you used to create the USB—was it Rufus? Make sure the ISO file was verified and compatible with your BIOS settings.
I've had luck using a similar method on an old netbook! Sometimes the BIOS can be finicky, so make sure USB boot is enabled. If everything else fails, consider upgrading to an SSD for better performance and less hassle removing the hard drive.
Try removing the hard drive temporarily. It might force the laptop to look for an alternative boot device. Also, double-check your BIOS settings for boot order; the system might be set to prioritize the HDD over the USB. Hitting the right key to access the boot menu can help too! Watch for the F12 key when you power on.
