Help Choosing a PC Build for Architecture Work on a $3,000 Budget

Hey everyone! I'm new here and I'm looking for some advice on building a new PC. My old university laptop has finally died, and I need something powerful for my work as an architectural apprentice, where I focus on 3D rendering and BIM. I'm targeting a budget of $3,000.

I'm thinking about going with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti due to its great performance. I've also been considering the i7-14600K processor, but I've heard good things about the Intel 285K too, though I don't have personal experience with it. Do you think the Intel 285K justifies the extra cost given my type of work?

Additionally, what's your take on getting a pre-built system from someone like StarForge Systems versus trying a DIY build for the first time? Let me know your thoughts!

For a first-time build, you might want to check out subreddits like r/buildapcforme for DIY tips or r/suggestapc for straightforward pre-built options. Those communities can help you with specific recommendations based on what you're looking for.

As for the processors, the i7-14600K is definitely a great choice, but the 285K is powerful for 3D rendering too. It's all about what fits your needs best!

Hey! I took a look at what you’re considering, and I've got a couple of suggestions. For your setup, you could get the Intel 285K paired with the 5070 Ti and 64GB of RAM, which will help with the heavy workloads in rendering. Just so you know, comparing the i7-14600K and the 285K is a bit tricky because they're from different generations—285K is more like an i9.

If you're leaning towards DIY, building a PC can be fun and worth it, especially for a $3,000 budget. However, if you’re unsure about parts, checking out pre-built systems might save you some stress. A good option would be to check reviews for StarForge Systems or others to see how their builds hold up.

By the way, I found a good deal for the 5070 Ti, but it’s important to be mindful of prices because some can be inflated due to tariffs.

I totally agree with this! I’ve built a couple of PCs and it’s a rewarding experience, but if you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to go for a pre-built one. StarForge does look amazing aesthetically, and they’ve got solid builds too.
