Help Choosing Between Ryzen CPUs for Gaming

I'm looking to upgrade the CPU in my recently gifted PC, but I'm not very knowledgeable about computer parts. Right now, I'm considering the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the Ryzen 9 7900X. My current GPU is an RTX 3060, and I'm not planning to upgrade that anytime soon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Before making a decision, what motherboard do you have? You’ll want to ensure it's compatible with the CPUs you're considering. Also, is it an AM5 board?

Sorry, I have an ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F. I just got this PC recently, so I'm still figuring things out!

The 7800X3D is a fantastic choice if gaming is your focus. Just keep in mind that your RTX 3060 might limit the benefits of a higher-end CPU for now. Still, it sounds like you’re set up for an upgrade when you're ready to move to a 50 series GPU later on!

What do you primarily use your computer for? If it's mainly for gaming, I'd recommend going with the 7800X3D. If you also do some productivity work, the 7900X might be worth considering, especially if your tasks are CPU-intensive.
