Help Choosing the Right Motherboard for My First Build

I'm in the process of building my first PC and I'm feeling overwhelmed trying to choose the right motherboard. I've read a lot of conflicting opinions, and I'm not sure what to believe. Some people recommend the MSI B650, while others say MSI isn't reliable. I've seen suggestions for other options like the B850, but I'm unsure if that would be overkill. I also want to avoid overspending, but a good number of USB ports would be great if possible. Can someone recommend a motherboard based on my build? Here's a quick overview of my parts:

- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 4.5 GHz 8-Core Processor
- **CPU Cooler:** Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
- **Memory:** Kingston FURY Beast 16 GB DDR5-5600
- **Video Card:** Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB
- **Case:** Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
- **Power Supply:** be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 850 W 80+ Gold Certified

Also, if anyone has budget-friendly suggestions for a decent 2TB SSD, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

You really can't go wrong with a budget B650 if you're not planning to push your hardware too hard. Just prioritize what you need and avoid the flashy ones loaded with extras you'll never use!

I've had a good experience with the MSI B650 MAG Mortar. It works well with the Ryzen CPUs and has ample connectivity. Just watch for whatever card you install; in my case, it blocked some PCI slots. But overall, it’s been reliable!

For basic builds, honestly don’t stress too much. You can find a reliable B650 for pretty cheap. Just get the one with enough USB ports and the specs you need—there’s no need to shell out for top-tier models unless you're planning to overclock or need specific features.

When picking a motherboard, start by figuring out what features are essential for you, like the form factor—ATX is generally the easiest and most cost-effective option. Look for a B chipset; they usually provide more than enough functionality. Check for things like M.2 slots, USB ports, and an audio chip that meets your needs. Personally, I stick with brands like Asus, MSI, or Gigabyte; they generally offer reliable options. Ultimately, try to find a board that fits your specifications at the best price.

Also, don't sleep on MicroATX boards! They can often be cheaper than ATX.

If you're on AM5, I'd say the B650E is a solid choice. It's got great features for the price. Just keep in mind, if you're really budget-conscious, sorting PCPartPicker by price can help you find boards with the features you need without the extras that just inflate the price.
