Help! Confused About Powering My 9070 XT and RGB Controller

Hey everyone! I'm new to PC building and I'm nearly done with my setup. I have a 9070 XT graphics card that needs three 8-pin power connectors, and I'm using a Corsair RM850x power supply. My case is an NZXT H9, which has an RGB controller that I believe connects via PCIe. Here's where I'm stuck: with the RGB controller requiring a PCIe port, I'm short on PCIe connections for my GPU. I've read that using third-party cables as splitters can potentially damage components, and I really want to avoid powering my PC with only two of the three connectors on the GPU. I noticed my PSU has a 12V port. Can I use a 12V to 2x8-pin cable for this setup? Or would that be a bad idea? I just want to get this PC running so I can start gaming! Thanks for your help!

Using a SATA to PCIe adapter isn’t recommended. It can lead to overheating or component damage, which you definitely want to avoid. Stick to using the proper cables that come with your PSU, or consider reaching out to a specialist.

Honestly, for proper connections, it’d be best to get a custom cable made if you're looking to use that 12V-2x6 setup. Just make sure it meets PSU standards to avoid any mishaps with your components!

It looks like there might be some confusion about how the RGB controller gets its power. From what I’ve seen on NZXT’s site, it’s actually supposed to hook up to a SATA power cable, not PCIe. Could you double-check your manual to see if it mentions that?

Good catch! I was under the impression it needed PCIe too, but maybe it’s just a standard power connector.

Yeah, it’s pretty rare for an RGB control hub to need that much power from an 8-pin PCIe. Most likely, your PSU comes with couple of daisy chain PCIe cables, which should total four connections, so you shouldn’t have to worry about connecting your GPU.

I wish I had those daisy chain cables, but unfortunately, they weren't included in the box.
