I've got a printer that I haven't touched in a few years, and I remember it acting up when I replaced a cartridge—maybe both cartridges were affected. Now that I've connected it to a new laptop, it can print, but the output is really faint and has a purplish hue. Is it just old ink that's the problem? Should I be worrying about more issues when I replace the ink? Thanks for any advice!

It sounds like the ink might have dried and clogged the print heads. You can try running the printer's cleaning routines multiple times; it might help, but it’s not guaranteed. There's a chance that the print heads could be damaged too, but give the cleaning a shot first!
What do you mean by ruining the printer heads?
