Help! I spilled water on my PC and now I’m having boot issues

A couple of months ago, I accidentally spilled water all over my desk and it made its way into my PC, hitting the power supply directly. I panicked and unplugged everything right away. After letting it dry out and cleaning up a ton of dust from the power supply, I plugged the PC back in and it seemed to work. However, I've been experiencing some weird boot problems. Sometimes the screen just goes completely black, other times it works for a minute before going dark again. I suspect it might be an issue with my GPU (a GTX 1080) or maybe the power supply since the water mainly affected those parts. The motherboard should be okay as it's mounted on the side. This problem happens on both Windows 10 and Linux Mint, which are on separate drives. Is there any way I can diagnose what's causing the issue? How can I determine if the power supply is providing proper output or if the GPU is crashing?

First off, be careful with that power supply! Opening a PSU can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing; you could get shocked or even start a fire. When your screen goes black, check the status lights on your motherboard. If they’re showing anything unusual, that might give you a clue. It might be best to get a technician to assess the situation and check for any possible water damage. You might want to consider replacing the PSU altogether—it's a lot cheaper than dealing with potential fire hazards down the line!

Yeah, disassembling it might have been a stretch! Just moving it out for cleaning is safer. I also agree with checking for any damage. If you're worried about it, spending a bit on a new PSU is definitely better than risking your whole setup.

Does the crashing happen only during boot, or does it occur while you're using the PC?

The issues primarily occur at boot, and sometimes it'll crash just a few seconds after starting up.
