I'm in a bit of a panic! I tried cleaning out my PC with a hairdryer to get rid of the dust, but now when I turn it on, there's no display at all. The fans are running, and the lights are on, but the monitor just shows a black screen. I've done everything I could think of to fix it:
- Reseated the RAM
- Cleaned the RAM slots
- Removed and reinstalled the GPU
- Disconnected and reconnected every component
- Cleared the CMOS
- Tried booting with just one stick of RAM
- Even tested it without the GPU using the onboard graphics, but still nothing.
I've got no beeping sounds, no POST screen—just blankness. Did I damage something with the hairdryer? Is it possible I got static electricity? Could I be totally out of luck? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yikes, that’s rough! When cleaning, using hot air can definitely lead to static buildup. If you have another PC, try testing your components on it. Remove everything and just connect the CPU, PSU, and motherboard. If you don’t get any beeps, it’s time to start troubleshooting each part. Also, check the CPU socket for any dust and consider reapplying thermal paste.
What are your specs?
It sounds like you may have caused some static damage with the hairdryer. I've seen instances where that happens, and it's not pretty. Unfortunately, you might have fried the motherboard. I recommend taking it to a local repair shop, but be prepared for the worst. And for future cleaning, stick to compressed air or a dedicated PC blower—much safer options!
I have a Ryzen 5 5600G, B550m motherboard, 16GB RAM at 3600MHz, an RX 6700XT GPU, and a 650W PSU.
